because it does not emit raw format, needed for computer processing. Computer processing is a BIG deal, it’ll make your pics look AMAZING, and you don’t want to shoot in a format that will forever lock your images out of this amazing capability.

5 years from now, you fire up the PC, get photomatix for HDR procesing (easy to do), and what? All you have is jpeg! awwww. All that opportunity, that “perfect, beautiful shot is down the drain!

SO wait for the mfrs to offer raw, or find one that does.

If you dont take your pics seriously, buy this. I have seen the most beautiful photos, amenable to the incredible power of processing, be in a crappy jpeg format. You have a power-house available in these cams 12 mpixel sensor. Getting jpeg is like towing a porsche with a child’s bicycle, or taking a french cuisine meal, throwing it in the blender, adding some soda pop, and serving it.

…but it’s pathetically small for everyone else. I don’t own this camera, but after trying it out in several stores, I found its buttons are just about too small to be usable. Just take that for what it’s worth ahead of time

    Shipping from Amazon sucks.

I placed order on October 18th and after 6 days I got an email from Amzaon mentioning that the order is delayed. When I placed the order the item was showing “In Stock”. Now my order will be delivered on November 5th. I called Amazon customer service line and twice hung up upon. Third time, I spoke to Michelle, Supervisor, and she mentioned I cannot cancel the order and order will come by Nov 5 - Nov 12th. I feel like hostage at this time as I wanted camera by certain time. I can not buy it from other place and will have to be at mercy of Amazon to deliver product when it gets here. Amazon still shows that this item is IN STOCK with green light.

  4. Have had this camera over a week. Took many very good pictures. Took a lot of video. The pictures were easy to view after up loading with Zoom Browser EX (supplied). However, cannot view the video because the SD780is only produces MOV files. Canon recommends using Quicktime ONLY! Programs we use on our WINDOWS PC, do not support MOV files.

So, if you own a MAC this a great camera. If you own a Windows PC don’t waste you money!

Do NOT buy this camera. It was an absolute hassle receiving it from Amazon. I’ve been an Amazon customer for years and I’ve never been so disappointed in my life. It took us a month to get it and we were without a camera for a weekend getaway. We finally got it in time for our honeymoon in Greece and were pleased as punch with it for TWO DAYS. After we had taken many pictures of us visiting once-in-a-lifetime sites, the camera read “memory card error,” was completely nonfunctional, and had lost all of our pictures. It wasn’t the memory card–it’s the camera. Now our sexy little Canon has no use other than collecting dust as we try to get our money back.

PS–We got an Olympus while in Greece and, while it cost a bajillion euros, we are in love with it. Check out an Olympus instead.
